Alex Pereira Calls For Ciryl Gane Rematch

Alex Pereira has taken a few months to let the dust settle after being TKO’d by Ciryl Gane in their interim heavyweight title fight at UFC: White House back in June and has now decided what he wants to do next.

And it seems that the former middleweight and light-heavyweight champion not only plans to stick around at heavyweight for his next fight, but has decided that he wants to push for a rematch against Gane.

“After much time resting and doing what I needed to do, after much work, after my last fight, many people are talking about who will Alex fight,” Pereira said on Instagram. “I’m seeing many opinions, but I think the fight that makes sense is Ciryl Gane. That’s the fight. I’m going to work on that and from what I’m seeing, it’s something that’s going to happen. How the last fight ended: there were illegal shots.”

It had been anticipated that Gane would be moving on to fight Tom Aspinall for the unified title later this year, but that match-up is currently in doubt after Aspinall’s advisor Eddie Hearn said last week that the champion still has to pass more tests before he’s cleared to return by the commission.

That could leave the door open for a rematch between Gane and Pereira, but given that ‘Bon Gamin’ appeared to be decisively winning the first fight even if the blows to the back of the head at the end were disregarded, the UFC might not be as eager to put on a 2nd fight between them at this stage.
