Arman Tsarukyan Fights Maurico Ruffy At UFC 331 After Charles Oliveira Withdraws

Arman Tsarukyan will now fight Mauricio Ruffy in the co-main event of UFC 331 in Los Angeles on September 19th after Charles Oliveira withdrew from the match-up.

Tsarukyan had originally been expected to rematch Oliveira for the symbolic ‘BMF’ title at the event, but Oliveira has withdrawn as he mourns the death of his friend and training partner Allan Nascimento, who passed away from a heart-attack earlier this week.

The 29-year-old Tsarukyan comes into the fight on a five-fight winning streak in the Octagon that had included a prior split-decision victory over Oliveira, as well as other wins against the likes of Dan Hooker, Beneil Dariush, Joaquim Silva and Damir Ismagulov.

During the last year or so, the No.2 ranked Tsarukyan has also been heavily involved in other combat sports, having gone 6-0-1 in submission grappling, and 7-1 in freestyle wrestling.

Now he’ll go up against the 30-year-old Ruffy, who holds a 5-1 UFC record and is currently ranked No.10 in the division.

Ruffy has already picked up two wins this year, having TKO’d Rafael Fiziev back in February, before going on to TKO Michael Chandler at the UFC: White House event in June.

Tsarukyan vs. Ruffy will serve as the lead-in to the UFC 331 main event welterweight title fight between Islam Makhachev and Ian Garry, while the full line-up also includes the likes of Renato Moicano vs. Brian Ortega, Patricio Pitbull vs. Doo-Ho Choi and Gable Steveson vs. Sean Sharaf.
