Johnny Walker’s heavyweight debut will now be against Mick Parkin at UFC 332 in Salt Lake City, Utah on October 3rd.
The 34-year-old Walker had originally been drawn up to fight Ante Delija at UFC Fight Night 283 on August 1st, but the fight was scrapped after his opponent got injured.
Now Walker will have a few extra months to fully prepare for his move up to heavyweight, which came about after only picking up one win in his last five fights down at 205lbs.
Walker also seemed to gain some confidence in the switch-up after training with Francis Ngannou recently, and the Brazilian certainly has the frame for heavyweight given that he stands 6ft 5″ with a vast 82″ reach.
For his debut in the division he’ll be fighting the 30-year-old Parkin, who was unbeaten in his 10-fight career prior to suffering a unanimous decision loss to Marcin Tybura in March of last year, and is only now returning to action almost 18 months later.
Parkin’s prior unbeaten run had included four wins in the UFC, albeit against a fairly low standard of opposition, and as such he currently holds the No.14 spot on the heavyweight rankings.
Walker vs. Parkin joins a UFC 332 card that will include flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko going up against Natalia Silva and Payton Talbott vs. Deiveson Figueiredo.
