It’s not often you hear of a 21-year-old planning to retire by the time their 25, but that’s just what Raul Rosas Jr has in mind, and he’s already planned out just how he envisages it happening.
“If by 25 I’ve accomplished everything I want to accomplish in my career, then I’m gonna step back from the sport,” Rosas Jr told Full Send MMA.
Rosas Jr, who made history when he signed with the UFC while he was still only 17-years-old, will turn 22 in just a couple of weeks time, and his plan for the next three years includes becoming a successful bantamweight champion.
“The goal is to get the belt and then defend it a couple of times. Try to challenge myself, go up a weight class, maybe two. After I run out of goals, that’s when I will [retire]. It could be 26, 27, 28… Whenever I am done with my goals that’s when I will step out of the game.”
It’s probably wise that he doesn’t appear to be sticking too hard to doing all that by the time he’s 25, but there’s nothing wrong with having ambitious goals, and to be fair he’s already accomplished a lot for his age, having gone 6-1 in the UFC, including his current five-fight winning streak that includes wins over veterans like Rob Font and Vince Morales.
Still, Rosas Jr faces a tough main event clash against Raoni Barcelos on Saturday night, so it’s important that he keeps his main focus on just taking it one fight at a time.
