UFC Fight Night 284 Predictions

UFC Fight Night 284 Predictions

UFC Fight Night 284 takes place at the UFC Apex tomorrow night and we’ve got our predictions for all the fights below.

Main Card

Mateusz Gamrot vs. Quillan Salkilld

Mateusz Gamrot returns after a submission win a few months ago to face the fast-rising Quillan Salkilld, who has gone 5-0 in the Octagon so far.

The 35-year-old Gamrot has earned notable wins over the likes of Arman Tsarukyan, Rafael Fiziev, Rafael dos Anjos and Jalin Turner during his 9-4 run in the promotion, but two wins and two losses over the past couple of years has slowed down his title push. Gamrot’s strengths remain his pace, conditioning and chain‑wrestling, giving him the opportunity to repeatedly work for takedowns and then implement solid top control and reliable grappling. On the feet he’s more functional than dangerous, but he stays active, and while he can be hurt he has never been finished by strikes.

The 26-year-old Salkilld arrived from the Contender Series in late 2024 and has quickly made an impact, including four first‑round finishes and multiple ‘Performance’ bonuses. Salkilld will have a 2″ height and 4″ reach advantage here, which he’ll put to use as he’s becoming a real finishing threat on the feet with good accuracy, power and versatile weaponry, as showcased in his recent head‑kick KO of Nasrat Haqparast and TKO of Beneil Dariush. Salkilld also has confident offensive wrestling, reasonable takedown defense and can grapple too, including a neck crank finish against Jamie Mullarkey back in January.

I expect this to be Salkilld’s toughest test yet thanks to Gamrot’s five round experience, cardio and continual wrestling threat. Salkilld is definitely the better, harder-hitting striker though, and is no pushover in the wrestling and grappling departments, so I think he can force enough stand-up exchanges here to win rounds, rack up some damage and emerge with a decision victory.

Pick: Quillan Salkilld wins by decision.

Carlos Diego Ferreira vs. Billy Quarantillo

Carlos Diego Ferreira and Billy Quarantillo take the co‑main event spot as the each try to break free from back-to-back losses in the UFC.

At 41-years-old, Ferreira has only claimed two wins in his last seven trips to the Octagon, but those victories were quality KO and TKO finishes over Michael Johnson and Mateusz Rebecki respectively. Across his long UFC run Ferreira has been a crafty, well‑rounded veteran who blends active striking with solid wrestling, and skilled BJJ, and in his heyday was able to compile a noteworthy six‑fight winning streak. In the present day though there are concerns regarding his durability, with three of his last four losses coming via strikes, while his performances and cardio have become more inconsistent over time.

Quarantillo is getting up there in years too at 37 and returns after an 18-month abesnce due to a torn meniscus. His UFC tenure has been defined by inconsistency, alternating wins and losses for much of it. At his best he’s been able to overwhelm opponents with his fast pace and high-volume striking, while mixing in occasional offensive wrestling and submission threats. He’s an unrefined striker technically though and leaves defensive holes that have become problematic, suffering two KO losses in his last four bouts.

Quarantillo’s pace could challenge Ferreira’s cardio here over time, but Ferreira’s cleaner striking technique and better power favor him early, and I think that success on the feet could pave the way for him to then use his grappling to secure a 2nd round submission finish.

Pick: Carlos Diego Ferreira wins by submission in Rd2.

Darren Elkins vs. Yadier del Valle

Grizzled veteran Darren Elkins returns after a 1st-round TKO loss last year for one final fight against Yadier del Valle, who sits at 2–1 in the UFC following a decision defeat.

The 42-year-old has earned his nickname ‘The Damage’ many times over during his 16 year run in the UFC with his love of attritional blood-baths in which he bets on his ability to absorb more punishment than his opponents and eventually grind his way to victory. It’s remarkable that he’s been able to fight into his 40’s his former durability has started to desert him and so even he has now accepted that it’s about time to hang up his gloves for good. Still, Elkin’s heart and determination has never dwindled, and he continues to be a stubborn grinder in the wrestling department who will also welcome scrambles and occasional submission opportunities. And though he’s been finished five times by strikes, he’s still only ever been finished by submission on one occasion.

Known as ‘The Cuban Problem’, the 31-year-old Valle had reached 10-0 in his career, including two submission wins in the UFC, before suffering a loss last time out. Valle can be a fairly competent boxer who relies on steady fundamentals, but is a bit lacking in terms of power. However, he can also wrestle, has solid grappling and can pace himself over three rounds when required.

A number of years ago this could have been the kind of fight where Elkins might have been able to grind out a win, but I think even someone with Valle’s limited power could pose him some problems for his weakened chin here with his better speed and cleaner technique. As such I’m taking Valle to win by 2nd round TKO.

Pick: Yadier del Valle wins by TKO in Rd2.

Amanda Lemos vs. Alexia Thainara

Amanda Lemos has lost her last two fights, while Alexia Thainara has opened her UFC account with three wins in a row.

At 39-years-old Lemos is struggling with consistency, having lost four of her last six fights. That being said, her losses during that run have been to either title challengers or former champions. Lemos continues to be a solid boxer who delivers her punches with accuracy and reasonable power, but her output has been in decline as she tries to pace herself more at this late stage in her career. Lemos can work effectively in the clinch and will seek out opportunistic submissions, but she can be taken down and has been submitted twice during her 9–6 UFC tenure.

The 28-year-old Thainara has compiled a 14–1 career record, and recently avenged the only loss of her career by beating Bruna Brasil, who had previously submitted her seven years ago. Thainara is a physically strong strawweight who isn’t the most polished striker, but compensates with heavy clinch pressure, judo throws, and a reliable grappling game that’s produced eight submission wins.

Lemos has the cleaner striking, but Thainara’s strength in the clinch and on the mat over three rounds, and being over a decade younger swings the fight her way for a decision victory.

Pick: Alexia Thainara wins by unanimous decision.

Billy Ray Goff vs. Ty Cole Miller

Billy Ray Goff will try to shake off two losses in a row hen he fights Ty Miller, who brings an unbeaten 7‑0 (+1 NC) record so far, including a 1st round TKO win in his UFC debut.

The 28-year-old Goff came into the UFC via the Contender series and started well with a first‑round TKO back in 2023, but he’s only fought twice since, losing by decision to Trey Waters in 2024 and then being submitted by Ramiz Brahimaj in May of last year. Goff is a pressure‑heavy kickboxer with a brawling mentality, focusing on high volume, forward movement, and a willingness to absorb shots to land his own. Seven of his nine wins are by strikes, and he’ll occasionally mix in a takedown too, but he’s not proven to be a submission threat and was tapped for the first time in his career in his last outing.

The 26-year-old Miller is another fighter off the Contender Series production line. He’s a tall welterweight who’ll carry a 4″ height and 5″ reach advantage in this match-up. He’s also a high‑output kickboxer, but is cleaner technically than Goff and more comfortable fighting from range and can mix in knees to complement his punches and kicks well at closer quarters. Miller hasn’t delivered a submission win yet, hut he’s so far shown solid takedown defense to keep the action upright.

Goff has the rawer stopping power, but Miller’s size, reach, and sharper fundamentals should let him maintain distance to frustrate his opponent and enable him to out‑land Goff over three rounds.

Pick: Ty Miller wins by decision.
