Daniel Marcos Defeats Adrian Yanez By Split Decision At UFC On ESPN 63

Daniel Marcos won a close fight with Adrian Yanez tonight at UFC On ESPN 63 by split-decision (28-29, 30-27, 29-28).

Round One

Solid low kick from Yanez to start then a crisp punch. Marcos not in a hurry to get that back as he stands steady in the center of the Octagon. Eventually a leg kick from him.

Body punch for Yanez. Marcos just misses with a punch. He lands another soon after though that snaps Yanez head back. Pressing forward he looks to land again and Yanez has to show good head movement to avoid that.

Low kick from Marcos is checked. Marcos looks to strike again but manages to land a groin strike followed by an eye poke for good measure that forces a time-out to give him time to recover. Thankfully Yanez seems to have taken it well so he should be able to continue. He does have a little blood below his left eye where he was grazed during that sequence.

Yanez ready to continue. Nice right hand counter from Yanez. Overhand from Marcos. Calf kick from Marcos. Calf kick for Yanez.

Left hand for Marcos. One-two for Yanez. Jab from Marcos. Calf kick lands for him. double-jab for Yanez. Heavy exchange in close and both landed well there.

Yanez clinches up and works Marcos over to the cage. Marcos able to reverse the position and tries to work for a takedown. Yanez defending though. Nice elbow from Marcos and then back into the clinch again as the round draws to a close.

Round Two:

Yanez With a combination but comes up short. Marcos presses forward. Yanez with a nice hook on the counter. Now a good punch from Marcos too as the fight heats up.

Yanez comes forward and lands a body punch. Jab for Marcos. They clinch up in the center of the Octagon. Right hand connects from Marcos. Yanez with a calf kick.

Reaching right hand from Marcos but just grazes the target. Wild swings from Marcos. Now he lands a punch and tries to feed a kick in off of it that doesn’t pay off. Low kick for Yanez.

High body kick from Marcos. Now a knee attempt. Grazing punch for Marcos. Jab from Yanez. Yanez with a solid right. Low kick for Yanez.

Leg kick from Yanez. Body kick for Marcos. Jabs from Yanez. Yanez pressing the action now. Both land grazing hooks.

Marcos with a big connection. Leg kick for Marcos. Marcos In on a single-leg attempt but Yanez fights it off. Marcos with a jumping knee attempt but misses and Yanez lands punches in return. Final punch lands for Marcos.

Round Three:

left hand for Marcos. Now a right gets through as they both look to exchange in close. Both firing off strikes. Yanez with a counter, but Marcos then lands a nice takedown.

Yanez with his back against the cage. He’s able to work back to is feet, but Marcos still pressing him up against the cage.

Yanez reverses the clinch position now and almost gets Marcos to the mat. Back to striking now. Right hand from Marcos. Now he goes for another takedown, in the center of the Octagon this time, and lands it.

Yanez tries for a guillotine but noting doing. Marcos in half-guard with half the final round remaining. Yanez getting his feet on Marcos’ hips and tries to manufacture an escape, but nothing doing for now. As he thinks about a submission attempt from his back Marcos is able to move to side control.

Yanez scrambles back to his feet and gets into the clinch against the cage. A minute to go now as they go back to striking. Punch for Yanez. Now a snapping jab from Marcos.

Marcos ducks under a punch and then fires back with two of his own. Marcos backing up to the cage now, looking the more tired of the too. However, Yanez opts to clinch rather than strike.

Final few seconds and it’s back to striking with Yanez putting together a combination that Marcos just steers clear off.

Decision:

Marcos just edged out the striking action here while also mixing in some wrestling later on in the fight to help earn a split-decision win over Yanez (28-29, 30-27, 29-28).
