After a long layoff due to a pectoral injury UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones appears to now have his sights locked in on fighting Stipe Miocic at UFC 309 at Madison Square Garden in New York City on November 9th.
“Today we worked on the top part of my squat,” Jones wrote on instagram. “I finished up at 525 pounds for a set of three. It’s awesome to feel my strength coming back, while shredding pounds at the same time.
“I got 18 weeks and three days to improve, and that’s exactly what I’m going to do. Progress equals happiness, sacrifice today, smile tomorrow. Find your personal love for self improvement.”
“The red corner, my office, #Nov9th,” Jones wrote in a comment later, before making his intentions crystal clear in another follow-up post.
“November 9th Madison Square Garden. I know it seems like a dream but it’s really happening.”
The 36-year-old Jones only fight in the past four years came in March of last year when the former long-time light-heavyweight kingpin emerged from three years on the sidelines to challenge for the heavyweight title, and did so in style with a 1st round submission win over Ciryl Gane to claim the vacant belt.
As for Miocic, the ex-heavyweight champ would be 42-years-old by the time this fight take place, if it is indeed made official. His last fight was over three years ago when he lost the title courtesy of a 2nd round knockout at the hands of Francis Ngannou.
