Khamzat Chimaev ran through Robert Whittaker tonight at UFC 308, taking him down almost immediately and dominating him there, before dislocating his opponent’s jaw with a face crank to win by first-round submission.
Round One:
Inside low kick from Whittaker to start. High kick attempt from Khamzat. Khamzat drives into a fast, low takedown and gets Whittaker down to his knees, but he pops back up. Whittaker dragging him down again though.
Whittaker on one knee with his back against the cage, but Khamzat has a hook in and is keeping him down looking for punches.
Whittaker tries to escape, but Khamzat is staying tight to him. He lands a few knees to the thigh as Whittaker is still on one knee. More knees land.
Whittaker continuing to turn but now there’s a scramble and Khamzat ends up taking his back and threatening with a rear-naked choke. Whittaker defends that well though and scrambles out of that position. Now he’s back to one knee with Khamzat all over him and a hook in to help keep him grounded.
More scrambling action now and Khamzat was almost going for the rear-naked choke again, but ‘The Reaper’ continues scrambling.
Yet another scramble and Khamzat goes for the rear-naked choke again. It’s more of a face crank though and it forces a frantic tap-out from Whittaker at 3.34mins of the opening round! It might be that the former champ suffered a dislocated jaw as Khamzat applied that finishing move. Very impressive stuff from Khamzat as gets back to his dominant winning ways against a highly respected former champ!
