Payton Talbott vs. Yanis Ghemmouri Added To UFC 303

Payton Talbott’s next fight will be against Yanis Ghemmouri at UFC 303 in Las Vegas on June 29th.

The 25-year-old Talbott is considered one of the most promising prospects to have emerged from the Contender Series so far. He’s gone undefeated in his eight-fight career so far and that includes back-to-back wins in his two appearance in the UFC in the past year.

Talbott was able to submit Nick Aguirre via rear-naked choke in his promotional debut back in November and has since followed that up with a 2nd round TKO finish of Cameron Saaiman in March.

Talbott will now take on the 29-year-old Ghemmouri, who entered the UFC with a 12-1 record last year, but suffered a third round TKO loss to William Gomis in his debut. That defeat was somewhat controversial as Ghemmouri thought he’d received a low blow to the groin and turned his back expecting a brief stoppage to give him time to recover, only for the referee to immediately wave the fight off instead. However, it’s worth noting that Gomis was up two rounds on the scorecards at that stage in the fight.

Talbott vs. Ghemmouri joins a UFC 303 card that’s sure to be one of the biggest events of the year due to it being headlined by the long-awaited return of Conor McGregor in a showdown with Michael Chandler, while other fights so far confirmed for the card include former light-heavyweight champion Jamahal Hill vs. Khalil Rountree Jr, Cub Swanson vs. Andre Fili, Michelle Waterson vs. Gillian Robertson and Joe Pyfer vs. Marc-Andre Barriault.
