Following last night’s UFC Fight Night 218 event the recipients of the evening’s $50,000 bonus awards were announced.
On this occasion the UFC dished out four ‘Performance Of The Night’ awards, and Sergey Spivak picked up on of them after he made it look easy against Derrick Lewis, throwing him to the mat multiple times in the early stages of the opening round, before setting up a fight-ending arm triangle choke submission.
In the prelims Anshul Jubli not only secured a UFC contract as winner of the lightweight ‘Road To UFC’ tournament with a second round ground-and-pound TKO finish of Jeka Seragih, but also took home a performance bonus too.
In the bantamweight final of ‘Road To UFC’ it was Rinya Nakamura who wasted no time in claiming his UFC contract with a 33 second KO victory over Toshiomi Kazama that was also an obvious choice for a performance bonus.
The opening fight of the evening also delivered a bonus-worthy performance from Tatsuro Taira, who found himself caught in a guillotine choke early in his fight against Jesus Aguilar, but then flipped the script as the round went on by going on to switch between a triangle choke and then an armbar to force a verbal submission.
