A few years ago UFC stars Jon Jones and Israel Adesanya were trash-talking rivals who appeared to be on a collision course at some stage in the future, but when they finally came head-to-head in Las Vegas this week it was a different story.
It seems the two champions have now completely buried the hatchet and so there was nothing but positive vibes between them.
“We need more of this!” Jones wrote on Instagram afterwards alongside a photo of the two together. “Life’s too short to not be able to squash beef’s and get along with the homie. It was a real pleasure kicking it with middleweight champion @stylebender last night. Wish my man nothing but the best moving forward #respect.”
Back when there was bad blood between the two Adesanya was just establishing himself as the middleweight champion, while Jones held the light-heavyweight title. However, in the present day, while Adesanya still holds the 185lb title, Jones has long since vacated the 205lb belt and recently returned to win the heavyweight strap.
And as such it’s clear for all to see that there is now a massive size difference between the two, so perhaps it’s just as well these two UFC greats won’t be fighting in the Octagon and instead are now giving each other the respect they deserve while also giving MMA fans a wholesome moment of sportsmanship to enjoy.
