Kai Kara-France was impressed by Steve Erceg’s performance in his flyweight title challenge against current champion alexandre Pantoja at UFC 301 and now he’s looking to go up against him next as he tries to line himself up for a title shot.
“He held his own against the champ and arguably won that fight,” Kara-France told Sky Sports New Zealand. “A few decisions, if he did differently, he would probably have had it in the bag, but he showed a lot of skills that I was impressed with and I even messaged him, said you should be proud of that performance.”
Kara-France is coming off two losses in a row, but is still ranked No.4 in the 125lb ranks, which could be enticing for Erceg, who is actually still only ranked No.9 despite his recent title opportunity.
And sweetening the deal further, Kara-France suggests that UFC 305 in Erceg’s own backyard in Perth, Australia on August 18th would be a perfect destination for the fight.
“I feel like Steve would be a great dance partner, somewhere close to home – he’s from Perth – so I know the hometown boy will get a lot of hype.”
“There’s no animosity when it comes to Anzacs or guys from this side of the world, you just got to give props where it’s due but yeah that’s the fight game.”
