After another hugely entertaining performance at ‘UFC On Fuel TV 3’ fan-favorite ‘The Korean Zombie’ Chan-Sung Jung spoke about the fight with Fuel TV’s Ariel Helwani.
Leading up to the fight Jung had been considered an underdog against rising star Poirier, but he says if anything that was a good thing for him.
“Actually, I think that every time I am an underdog it gives me more motivation to do well, but this time I think I really was able to showcase my abilities,” Jung, who’s face was showing the bumps and bruises of four hard-fought rounds said.
The Korean Zombie certainly didn’t look like an underdog out there though and he felt that he was getting the better of the action in the early stages of the fight.
“I certainly felt like I was in control, especially in the first and second rounds, so I was feeling good at the beginning.”
Jung looked like he began to tire a little as the third round progressed after his excertions in those first 10 minutes, but this was a five round main event so he was only at the half-way point. He’d never been to the fourth round in a fight before, but says the fact he was getting the better of his opponent fueled him to keep pushing forward.
“I actually felt better than I thought I would, especially since I was getting the upperhand on Dustin Poirier it gave me a lot more energy to continue.”
The Korean isn’t sure whether this is the best fight of his career, he’ll have to watch it again to be sure, but he does feel that it now puts him in a position where he can now hope for to fight for the title against current featherweight champion Jose Aldo.
“I definitely feel like I proved a point in this fight. Previously I thought I got lucky with a lot of my fights, but I think I was really able to showcase my abilities and prove what I can do out there [tonight].”
