UFC heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos demonstrated once again on Saturday night that he has the best boxing in the division as he took out Frank Mir inside of two rounds, but even before the fight began two boxing superstars had already given him their seal of approval.
First up WBC heavyweight champ Vitali Klitschko who holds an exceptional 44-2 career record showed that he’s up to speed with the sport by praising the Brazilian’s striking ability.
“JDS is a very strong fighter, deserves to be world champ,he jabs like my brother Wladimir,so is learning from the best,” he said.
Coincidentally, during the build-up to UFC 146 last week Dos Santos had told reporters that he was interested in testing his skills in the boxing ring, and claimed he’d be ready to fight one of the Klitschko brothers at any given time if he was afforded a three month training camp.
If he did ever make the switch to the boxing ring then he could count on another notable figure in the world of boxing, former WBA champ David Haye (25-2).
“Do ur thang tonight @junior_cigano Long may you Reign The King of the Big Boys! Your boxing skills are World class! Big KO!”
MMA-level striking is often looked down upon by boxing purists so it’s certainly refreshing to hear two of the best known fighters in the sport being so open in their praise for Dos Santos mastery of ‘The Sweet Science’.
Haye has long been a fan of mixed martial arts, and has himself dabbled in karate, kickboxing and BJJ, and he also offered up his prediction for how the fight with Mir would go down.
“I got @junior_cigano winning by ground and pounds, started with a left hook in second round. Hope my Crystal ball is working correct!!”
He wasn’t too far off. ‘Cigano’ did knock Mir down with a left hook in the second round, though he got back up and it was actually a straight right that floored him again before the ground and pound finish.
