After watching Demetrious ‘Mighty Mouse’ Johnson earn his spot in the UFC’s first ever flyweight final opposite Joseph Benavidez, Dana White admitted that he hoped the two would be able to fight soon as they are in need of big fights right now after a spate of injured fighters, but alas it seems that Johnson is now one of them.
Speaking on the latest episode of HDNet’s Inside MMA show Johnson revealed that he’s going to require an operation before he can get back into the Octagon.
“Honestly, I would love to fight tomorrow, but I got a couple of injuries coming into my last fight – I had stitches, I had a haematoma on my shin, and I also went in to see the doctor today and I’m going to have to have a small procedure surgery on Frida. I suffered a hernia during the fight so I’ll be out about two weeks.”
There had been talk of Johnson and Benavidez being shipped in to help the injury-ravaged UFC 149 card in Calgary on July 21st, but from the sounds of things that’s going to come a little too quickly for him in his current condition.
In fact, in a later interview with MMAJunkie Johnson indicated that the recovery from the operation may take as long as four weeks and he’s now anticipating his title fight landing somewhere in the neighborhood of October or November.
