Rory MacDonald has been forced out of his fight with BJ Penn at UFC 152 after he sustained an injury in training.
According to Dana White following this evening’s UFC On FOX 4 post-fight press conference, MacDonald suffered a major cut on his forehead in training which required 40 stitches and will rule him out of the September 22nd event in Toronto, Canada.
At this stage there’s no indication of who will be the replacement for Penn on the card. It’ll be interesting to see how he reacts to the news though given that he came out of retirement specifically to fight the young rising star after having turned down other potential opponents like Josh Koscheck.
Luckily the event still has a strong line-up, with a flyweight title fight between Demetrious Johnson and Joseph Benavidez taking on headline duties, while Michael Bisping and Brian Stann fight in the co-main event.
