Dan Henderson Expects To Fight Lyoto Machida At UFC 156

Dan Henderson has revealed that as things stand he expects to fight Lyoto Machida at UFC 156 on Febuary 2nd, AKA ‘Superbowl Weekend’.

“I can tell you what I know,” ‘Hendo’ told the ‘MMA Uncensored Live’ show this week. “I was told that it should be Super Bowl weekend, February 2nd, but who knows? Until it’s a done deal, I’ve been told things before that didn’t necessarily come true.”

Henderson had originally been expected to fight for the title back in September at UFC 151 against Jon Jones before suffering an injury that forced him to withdraw and began a chain of events that would result in the entire show being cancelled.

Meanwhile, Machida had been announced as the division’s next No.1 contender after his victory over Ryan Bader at ‘UFC On Fox 4’ in August, only to have that opportunity taken away from him after he refused to step in for Henderson at short notice to fight Jones.

Taking all that into consideration it could well be that Hendo Vs Machida will establish who faces the winner of Jones Vs Chael Sonnen which will go down in April.

As Henderson stated above, there’s yet to be official confirmation that his bout with Machida will take place on Superbowl weekend, but if it does then that looks like it will be quite a card.

A featherweight title fight between Jose Aldo and Frankie Edgar is already set as the headliner for that one, while Rashad Evans Vs Antonio Rogerio Nogueira has also been confirmed for the line-up.

Hopefully stacked cards like this one and ‘UFC On FOX 6’ just a week earlier will become a more frequent occurrence in 2013 now that it’s been confirmed that Strikeforce will fold in January, which will result in the UFC’s roster being strengthened considerably.
