BJ Penn Reveals He’s Undergoing Surgery For Cataracts In His Left Eye

UFC legend BJ Penn has revealed that he’s set to undergo surgery after it was discovered that he has catacts in his left eye.

“I got a cataract in my left eye and I’m heading out to do see Dr. Crandall”, Penn stated on his website BJPenn.com.   “He is the guy that did Margarito’s eye and the UFC set this up for me.”

The 34 year-old also admitted that the issue could keep him from fighting again if it can’t be resolved.

“I’m definitely hesitant to fight right now with the cataract in my eye.  People ask me all the time if I’m going to fight again and I almost just want to change the subject because right now, I definitely don’t want to fight with a cataract in my eye.”

That’s not the former UFC lightweight and welterweight champion’s main concern right now though – instead it’s just improving his day-to-day life that’s the biggest issue, though he’s still not willing to rule out a return to the Octagon at some stage in the future.

“The number one reason for the surgery is just for daily life. I have a tough time driving at night when the lights are shining and I’d like to get that back.

On the other hand, you never know what you’re going to be thinking if the surgery goes well. If I go in the gym and I’m knocking down all my sparring partners and doing awesome I would definitely think of fighting again.”

We’d like to take this opportunity to wish BJ all the best with his surgery, and regardless of whether he returns to the Octagon or not he’ll still go down as one of the sports greats and is a lock-on for the UFC’s Hall-Of-Fame when he does finally hang up his gloves.
