Rory MacDonald has had to pull out of a rematch with Carlos Condit at UFC 158 next month due to an injury.
MacDonald is believd to have injured his neck in training and there’s no indication of when the 23 year-old might return to action yet, though it’s likely that the UFC will try to keep Condit on the card if an opponent can be found with a little less than a month left until fight night.
MacDonald had himself called for the rematch after his last fight on FOX, having lost by TKO to Condit back at UFC 115 in 2010.
On that occasion MacDonald appeared to be well on his way to victory until Condit mounted a third round comeback that saw him finish the fight with just seven seconds remaining on the clock.
Since then MacDonald’s been on an impressive four fight winning streak, while Condit strung together a further three victories before losing to current champion Georges St.Pierre last time out.
As it happens GSP will headline that UFC 158 event opposite Nick Diaz, while another major welterweight clash between Jake Ellenberger and Johny Hendricks serves as the co-main event and could well establish who gets the next shot at the title.
