Anderson Silva Vs Chris Weidman Reported To Be On For UFC 162

There’s been much wailing and gnashing of teeth regarding who Anderson Silva will fight next, but it looks like we may finally be getting a definitive answer.

The man many believe to be the middleweight division’s No.1 contender, Chris Weidman was in New York today alongside UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta to help with the UFC’s bid to legalize the sport in the state, and it’s being reported that he was given assurances that he will fight the champion next.

“#breaking Lorenzo Fertitta just told @ChrisWeidmanUFC in Albany that he spoke to Anderson Silva and the fight is on for July 4 weekend,” stated Newsday.com reporter Mark La Monica.

Weidman, who’s currently on a five fight winning streak in the UFC and is 9-0 as a professional, later appeared to confirm the news.

“Dream come true,” Weidman told La Monica. “Ever since I’ve been fighting, Anderson Silva has been the champion and I’ve been visualizing beating him. Now I have the opportunity. I have to make the most of it.”

Silva recently started showing an interest in a potential superfight with Jon Jones, potentially at a UFC event in New York in November.

However, first off it looks as if he’ll have to get past Weidman, with UFC 162 in July the likely landing spot for it, while Jones still has to contend with Chael Sonnen at UFC 159 in April.
