After a triumphant return to MMA action at the weekend with a first round TKO victory at Invicta FC 5, Cris ‘Cyborg’ Santos will now go on to headline the promotion’s next show in the summer.
There she will face another former Strikeforce champion Marloes Coenen who will make her debut for the promotion against ‘Cyborg’ in a 145lb title fight.
It’s not the first time the two ladies have met – ‘Cyborg’ successfully defended her Strikeforce featherweight title against Coenen by third round TKO back in 2010, after which Coenen moved down to bantamweight and won that title.
In total Coenen is 4-1 since their last meeting, while ‘Cyborg’ defended her title once more before claiming another victory which was then changed to a no-contest after she tested positive for steroids.
The Brazilian fighter then faced a year’s suspension and Saturday was her first fight in 16 months.
‘Cyborg’ and Coenen have previously been earmarked as two potential worthy challengers for UFC Champion Ronda Rousey in the future so this is shaping up to be the biggest fights for Invicta FC so far.
