Wanderlei Silva is a good friend of Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua and mortal enemies with Chael Sonnen so it’s fair to say he didn’t exactly enjoy seeing ‘Shogun’ tapped by ‘The American Gangster’ on Saturday night as you’ll see in the video below.
Adding extra spice to the story, there were rumors out of Brazil pre-fight that Silva had bet $100,000 on ‘Shogun’ winning the fight.
It’s worth taking that rumor with a large pinch of salt, but When Dana White caught wind of that at his post-fight media scrum he joked that ‘The Axe Murderer’ had probably jumped off a building after the result, and later quipped that the good news was that it would been Silva would be eager to fight soon since he’s probably broke now.
Following his victory Sonnen called Silva out during his post-fight interview, stating, “Wanderlei Silva, six feet tall and 205 pounds, boy, until I met you, I didn’t know they could stack crap that high.”
Unfortunately we don’t get to see Silva’s reaction to that statement, but it’s safe to say he probably wasn’t amused!
The only post-fight comment from Silva so far was on Twitter where he exclaimed, “UFC haven’t called yet!!!!!”
Silva’s expected to move back down to 185lbs for his next fight and that happens to be where Sonnen is also headed so there’s a real chance this fight will happen, though fellow Brazilians Vitor Belfort and Lyoto Machida have also thrown their hat in the ring as potential next opponents for the outspoken fighter.
