Scott Jorgensen Drops To Flyweight To Fight Ian McCall At UFC On FOX 9

The UFC’s flyweight division just got itself a major new contender as Scott Jorgensen has opted to drop down to the 125lb ranks and will head straight into a tough fight with Ian ‘Uncle Creepy’ McCall at UFC On FOX 9 on December 14th.

Jorgensen has been a well respected, successful bantamweight fighter for a number of years, even fighting Dominick Cruz for the WEC title before crossing over to the UFC in 2011.

His UFC career got off to a good start with two wins, but he’s faltered since, going 1-3, although his losses came against three of the division’s top talents in Renan Barao, Urijah Faber and Eddie Wineland.

A move down to 125lbs makes sense for him and could help to re-energize his career. Having said that, he’s going to have to hit the ground running as he’s been put up against McCall who’s in a similar position to Jorgensen in that his recent record undersells his abilities.

Since joining the UFC ‘Uncle Creepy’ has gone just 1-2-1, but it has to be kept in mind that he fought current champion Demetrious Johnson twice, taking him to a draw on the first occasion, and his other loss came against current No.1 contender Joseph Benavidez.

McCall did pick up a win over Illiarde Santos last time out though and is now determined to prove that he can get back to the top of the division.

Overall this is shaping up to be an entertaining and closely fought match-up that enhances an already strong looking ‘UFC On FOX 9’ line-up that’ll be headlined by a lightweight title clash between Anthony Pettis and Josh Thomson.

It seems like the UFC are using this high-profile event as something of a lighter weight showcase as also confirmed so far is a bantamweight fight between Urijah Faber and Michael McDonald, plus a featherweight encounter between Chad Mendes and Nick Lentz.

Throughout it all I've remained captivated by the sport and I'm excited to cover what comes next here on MMA Insight.
