Former UFC fighter Thiago Silva is today out of jail after a court hearing resulted in him being granted a $25,000 bail.
Silva had been incarcerated last month after threatening his wife Thaysa Silva and her alleged boyfriend Pablo Popovitch with a gun outside Popovitch’s MMA Academy in Florida.
Initially Silva was charged with two counts of attempted murder, but the charge was soon lowered to aggravated assault with a firearm, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and resisting arrest without violence in the days after his arrest.
However, the judge at the time ruled that given that he was a potential flight risk and a danger to his wife, he shouldn’t be granted bail.
That ruling has now been overturned and he’s been granted bail after a new hearing yesterday in which a number of people, including Silva’s manager Glen Robinson, UFC star Rashad Evans, and even one of the alleged victims wife’s, Fabianna Popovitch, vouched for him.
In addition to the $25,000 bond, Silva is also under house arrest with an electronic monitor, has to undergo an anger management course and random drug and alcohol testing.
Silva is due back in court next week.
The troubled Brazil light-heavyweight was a fighter in the UFC for a number of years, but was released from his contract by the promotion when news of charges first emerged last month.
