Jake Shields Pulls Out Of Jon Fitch Fight At WSOF 11

World Series Of Fighting continue to have problems locking down an opponent for Jon Fitch’s next fight as word emerges that Jake Shields has now pulled out of their co-main event match-up at WSOF 11 on July 5th due to an injury.

Fitch had originally been scheduled to face current welterweight champion Rousimar Palhares until the Brazilian pulled out to care for his mother who’s currently ill, and Shields had been drafted in as a worthy replacement.

It’ll be tough for the promotion to come up with another strong opponent for Fitch, but at the moment the plan is still to keep him on the card.

Fitch had claimed a split decision win over the unheralded Marcelo Alfaya last time out in the WSOF cage, which canceled out a disappointing first round guillotine choke loss to Josh Burkman in his debut.

Despite the turmoil, WSOF 11 still has a lightweight title fight between Justin Gaethje and Nick Newell scheduled for it’s main event, while Melvin Guillard will also make his debut against Gesias ‘JV’ Cavalcante.
