A middleweight match-up between the in-form Thales Leites and Tim Boetsch has been announced for UFC 183 on January 31st in las Vegas.
So far Leites has strung together four victories in a row since returning to the UFC back in August of 2013. Making this all the more impressive is the fact that the Brazilian has shown a marked improvement in his striking game to complement his already well recognized grappling skills, leading to a TKO victory over Trevor Smith followed a KO win against Francis Carmont in his last two outings.
Despite this, Leites currently remains just outside the top 10 in the UFC’s official middleweight rankings, just two places ahead of Boetsch who’s placed at No.13.
Things hadn’t been looking to good for Boetsch lately, with three losses in four fights leading into his most recent encounter with Brad Tavares, and for the first round and a half it looked like he was heading for more of the same until he landed a couple of big shots out of the blue that ended the fight by TKO.
So, this is an important fight for both men, with Leites looking for a route to a top 10 spot, while Boetsch will be looking to solidify his position while putting more distance between him and his recent dip in form.
At this stage there’s no indication of whether Leites Vs Boetsch will feature on the main card of the UFC 183 pay-per-view event which will feature a huge headlining attraction as Anderson Silva returns to fight Nick Diaz.
