Josh Koscheck looks set to return to the Octagon for the first time in well over a year at UFC 184 in Los Angeles on February 28th to take on rising welterweight contender Neil Magny.
Part of the furniture in the UFC’s 170lb divison for many years, former title contender Koscheck has hit upon rough times in the promotion with three losses in a row, worryingly punctuated by two first round losses in a row at the hands of Robbie Lawler (TKO) and then Tyron Woodley (KO).
The prompted Koscheck, who turns 37 in a little over a week’s time, to take a full year off from the sport, and he’ll be hoping the break will enable him to enjoy a new lease of life in the always competitive welterweight division.
In Magny he faces a man 10 years younger than him who’s starting to make a name for himself in the UFC after a busy, but rewarding 2014 that saw him piece together five wins in a row inside the Octagon.
He hasn’t really fought anybody of any real note yet though, so this match-up with a well known fighter like Koscheck is exactly what he needs in order to get to the next level and push for a spot on the 170lbs rankings.
It’s unclear at this stage where Koscheck Vs Magny will be placed on the UFC 184 fight card which is already looking stacked with two title fights leading the charge as Chris Weidman puts his middleweight belt on the line against Vitor Belfort, while Ronda Rousey makes her latest bantamweight defense against Cat Zingano.
A heavyweight bout between Frank Mir and Antonio Silva, plus a middleweight clash with potential title implications between Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza Vs Yoel Romero are also expected to feature on the main card on pay-per-view.
