Demetrious Johnson Vs John Dodson Rematch Headlines UFC 191

Last night during the UFC Fight Night 71 event on FOX Sports 1 the UFC announced that UFC 191 on September 5th in Las Vegas will be headlined by a flyweight title rematch between Demetrious Johnson and John Dodson.

These two first fought back in January of 2013, with Johnson successfully defending his title for the first time by unanimous decision in a ‘Fight Of The Night’ performance.

Since then Johnson has all but cleaned out the 125lb weight class with a further five defenses of his title against a string of top 10 opponents, including three submission finishes and a KO stoppage.

Meanwhile, Dodson got straight back to winning ways, racking up another three victories, though he’s not been as active as the champion overall as he sat out for almost a year due to knee surgery.

so, Dodson’s firmly rooted to the No.1 contender spot at this moment in time and it’s always seemed inevitable that these two highly talented flyweights would one day meet again in the Octagon.

The UFC have also announced three more fights for the pay-per-view event, including former light-heavyweight title challenger Anthony Johnson’s return against Jan Blachowicz, up and coming strawweight star Paige VanZant’s next fight against Alex Chambers, and John Lineker moving up to bantamweight to face Francisco Rivera.
