After Thiago Alves pulled out injured late last week, the UFC have shuffled the UFC Fight Night 79 deck to establish a new main event for the evening in South Korea.
Now Ben Henderson will be facing Jorge Masvidal who moves up to the main event after originally being scheduled to fight Dong Hyun Kim in the co-main event.
The two fighters both decided to move away from the lightweight division earlier this year, so it’s an amusing quirk of fate that they are now going to facing each other at welterweight where they’re both looking to make a big impression.
A former lightweight champion, Henderson won his first bout at 170lbs back in February by TKO against Brandon Thatch after taking the fight on just a few weeks following a decision loss to Donald Cerrone.
Masvidal decided to make the leap up a division after a split decision loss to Al Iaquinta in April which ended a three fight winning run and he’s since got a win under his belt at welterweight with a first round KO against Cezare ‘Mutante’ Ferreira in July.
with Henderson Vs Masavidal now set as the main event on November 28th, co-main star Dong Hyun Kim has now landed a less high-profile replacement opponent in the shape of Dominic Waters who holds a 9-3 career record but lost his UFC debut in July against George Sullivan by decision.
