Gegard Mousasi may have been pushed aside from his scheduled UFC Fight Night 83 main event slot with Michael Bisping in favor of Anderson Silva by the UFC, but he still expects to remain on the fight card in London on February 27th.
“I am not injured, and I will remain on the UFC London card as co-main event,” Mousasi wrote on Twitter. “My manager is working with the UFC to find a new opponent.”
The UFC’s Head of PR, Dave Scholler has since confirmed that they are indeed looking for a new opponent for the 30 year-old.
Mousasi is coming off a TKO loss to Uriah Hall back in September, a fight he was winning until he walked into a spinning back kick and flying knee combo.
Overall Mousasi’s form has been somewhat patchy since joining the UFC from Strikeforce in 2013, going 4-3, but then he has been fighting high level opposition, with his other two losses coming against Lyoto Machida and Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza, while notable victories have come against the likes of Dan Henderson, Mark Munoz and Costas Philippou.
With three months still to go until fight night the UFC should have little difficulty finding a suitable opponent to keep him at the event which is shaping up to be one of the more memorable ones we’ve seen in the UK for some time, though oddly it’ll only be aired live via the UFC’s Fight Pass subscription service.
