If you don’t speak Portuguese then you probably didn’t realize that Anderson Silva accused the judges at Octagon-side in London, England at UFC Fight Night 84 of corruption last night following his split decision loss to Michael Bisping.
In his post-fight interview in the Octagon with Dan Hardy, his manager Ed Soares translated Silva’s message to his Brazilian fans, but opted to ommit his most controversial comments.
Here’s what Silva actually said.
“Here’s the deal, you can’t win one way, they try to take it away the other way. That’s it,” Silva said in Portuguese following the fight. “You saw how that went, right? So, there’s nothing left to say. I fought for you, and that’s it. Thank you for the support. My family, I’m coming back home, I’m fine. Mission accomplished, mission given, but sometimes it’s like in Brazil, total corruption.”
For the record, two of the three judges (Ben Cartlidge and Andy Roberts) for the fight were from the UK, while the third, Jeff Mullen has been involved in a controversial judges ruling in Bisping’s favor against Matt Hamill back in 2007.
However, it should be noted that according to the Fightmetrics site, Bisping was the rightful winner and a number of media outlets scorecards agreed.
Still, it was a highly controversial moment, as was Herb Dean’s decision not to end the fight after Silva floored Bisping in the final second of the third round, and so this is going to prove to be one of those bouts that’s going to be the subject of debate for years to come.
