UFC Considering Having Cris ‘Cyborg’ Fight At UFC 198

According to a report stemming from the ‘UFC Tonight’ show on FOX Sports 1 last night, the promotion is actively considering the possibility of having Invicta FC featherweight champion Cris ‘Cyborg’ compete at UFC 198 on May 14th in her native Brazil.

This May the UFC will be promoting an event in my hometown of Curitiba, Brazil, a city very rich in fight history,” Cyborg had noted herself recently on her own website. “It would be an honor to return back to the city I was born in, and to step inside of the Octagon with an opportunity to prove myself as one of the best female fighters in the sport.”

‘Cyborg’ has been attempting to convince the UFC to allow her to fight in the promotion for several years, but up until now she’s been unsuccessful, with Dana White indicating that she’d only be allowed to compete if she dropped down to 135lbs.

However, ‘Cyborg’, who’s held 145lb titles in both the Strikeforce and Invicta FC organizations has so far remained resistant to that idea, citing fears that she couldn’t make the weight safely.

Sticking to her guns may yet pay off if the UFC does allow her to compete at 145lbs at UFC 198, though at this stage it appears to just be an idea they are mulling over and nothing is set in stone yet.

The UFC are looking to stack the UFC 198 fight card as it is set to take place at a 42,000 seater stadium in Curitiba.

The line-up already looks to be suitably inticing with heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum fighting Stipe Miocic in the main event, Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza facing Vitor Belfort in the co-main event and the latest word being that Anderson Silva is also likely to fight Uriah Hall elsewhere on the main PPV card.
