Conor McGregor And Holly Holm Win ESPY Awards

Conor McGregor interview

UFC stars Conor McGregor and Holly Holm have each won an ESPY (‘Excellence In Sport Performance’) award at the event hosted by ABC, which is voted on by fans.

McGregor earned the ‘Best Fighter’ award on the night, beating out fellow UFC fighter Robbie Lawler and boxers Gennady Golovkin, Canelo Alvarez and Roman Gonzalez.

The Irishman follows in the footsteps of Ronda Rousey who won the ‘Best Fighter’ award last year, having also snapped up the ‘Best Female Athlete’ accolade the previous year.

Meanwhile, Holm claimed the ‘Biggest Upset’ award for her devastating knockout defeat of the aforementioned Rousey in November of last year. Other contenders for the award had included Middle Tennessee defeating Michigan State in the Men’s NCAA Basketball Tournament, and Roberta Vinci beating Serena Williams at the US Open.

No doubt both McGregor and Holm were delighted to add an ESPY to their respective trophy cabinets, but it comes at a time when both fighters are looking to steady the ship after suffering a loss in the Octagon this year.

McGregor’s unbeaten UFC run came to an end with a short notice welterweight fight against Nate Diaz at UFC 196 in March, while Holm lost her title to Miesha Tate at the same event.
