UFC executives are not the only employees heading for the exit this week as it’s now emerged that 13 fighters have also been cut from the roster, and among them is heavyweight veteran Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva.
The 37 year-old Silva’s current deal ended with a second round KO loss to Roy Nelson at UFC Fight Night 95 last month, and since then the two parties have mutually agreed to go their seperate ways.
That comes as no surprise as Silva has been on a dismal run of late that’s seen him win just once in his last eight outings.
Alarmingly, four of those losses have come by KO, with after two by TKO, but despite it being painfully apparent that his chin has deserted him, ‘Bigfoot’ has resisted calls to retire so far, and it’s believed that he will now look to fight elsewhere, with Japanese promotion Rizin FF believed to be high on his list.
Another notable name on the list is Tamdan ‘The Barncat’ McCrory, who returned to the UFC in 2015 after a brief stint in Bellator, but despite winning his first fight back, he has since lost two fights in a row by knockout.
Brazilian fighter Caio Magalhaes also sees his seven fight UFC career come to an end following back-to-back losses, leaving him with an overall 4-3 record in the promotion.
It’s a similar story for TUF: Latin America 2 runner-up Enrique Marin who also lost two fights in a row, resulting in he Spanish fighter being shown the door without ever having tasted victory in the UFC.
Experienced campaigner Kenny Robertson’s eight fight UFC run has also run it’s course, with split decision losses to Ben Saunders and Roan Carneiro signalling his exit, bowing out with a 4-4 record.
Sean Spencer also stayed the course for eight fights, but a trio of losses over the past couple of years, leaving him with a 3-5 UFC record sealed his fate.
