Jon Jones is no longer the UFC’s interim light-heavyweight champion, with Dana White confirming that he’s been stripped of the belt.
The news comes after Jones was handed a one year suspension from the sport by USADA for a failed drug test prior to UFC 200 in July.
“He was the interim champion because he should have been fighting for the title [in April]. We gave him this, ‘You were supposed to fight for the title, here it is.'” White told ESPN.
“It doesn’t make sense with all the stuff that is going on for him to still be the interim champion.”
White also declared yesterday that Jones has likely lost out on a huge sum of money due to his problems outside of the Octagon over the past couple of years.
“I mean, if he’d moved up to heavyweight and fought for the heavyweight championship, it could have been massive. It could be anywhere from $15-20 million.”
And as far as his legacy goes, White fears that his misdeeds could end up overshadowing his accomplishments.
“Jon Jones has blown it in every way shape and form a guy with that much talent can blow it. Greatest talent ever and the biggest screw-up ever.”
