UFC Light-heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier has been forced out of his headlining title fight with Anthony Johnson at UFC 206 in Toronto, Canada on December 10th due to an injury.
“@Anthony_Rumble I left a message for you on ur phone. I apologize. We Will get to rock and roll bruh. Once again my apologies. DC,” Cormier wrote to his opponent on Twitter after the story first broke.
“I wish nothing but the best for DC and I hope you have a full recovery champ…” Johnson wrote on his Twitter page.
As things stand the UFC are hoping to keep current 205lb No.1 contender ‘Rumble’ on the card, but it won’t be easy finding a replacement on such short notice that will satisfy fans who have already bought tickets for the show, anticipating a title being on the line.
This is the second blow for the UFC 206 in the past week, with another major fight between Rashad Evans and Tim Kennedy also being scrapped from the show after ‘Suga’ was denied a license to fight due to medical concerns over a recent brain scan.
That’s weakened what was shaping up to a solid main card, though there are still some notable match-ups on-board, including the co-main event featherweight clash between Max Holloway and Anthony Pettis, plus Donald Cerrone Vs Matt Brown.
