Dana White has delivered some welcome news for the UFC’s light-heavyweight division – up and coming talent Misha Cirkunov has just re-signed with the promotion.
Recently White had claimed that the promising prospect was “done” in the UFC after failing to agree terms on a new deal, but it seems that the two parties have since come to an agreement that will see the 30 year-old remain in the Octagon.
“We had come to terms on a deal, I had thought, and he sort of went MIA on me,” White told TSN. “I honestly don’t know what happened. He came back around, we got the deal done and I’m happy about it.”
That’s somewhat of a relief as the UFC’s 205lb division has been gradually thinning out over the past couple of years with Phil Davis leaving for Bellator, rumors that Ryan Bader is also headed in that direction, Jon Jones serving a lengthy suspension, Rashad Evans dropping to middleweight, Nikita Krylov being released, and other stars either losing form or approaching retirement.
Therefore, retaining the services of a talented fighter like Cirkunov, who is 4-0 in the UFC so far and has an overall 13-2 record becomes even more important.
At this stage there’s no word on Cirkunov will face next, but it’s likely the UFC will be eager to put him back into action sooner rather than later.
