Following last night’s UFC 214 event in Anaheim, California the recipients of the evening’s $50,000 bonus awards were announced.
Earning ‘Fight Of The Night’ honors on this occasion was the preliminary card fight between Brian Ortega and Renato Moicano.
For much of the fight Ortega opted to compete with Mioicana on the feet, but when his opponent tried to take down the highly regarded grappler mid-way through the third round he instantly wrapped up a guillotine choke submission and in mere seconds he forced him to tap-out.
Not only did Jon Jones win back his light-heavyweight title in the main event of the evening against Daniel Cormier, but he also scooped up a ‘Performance Of The Night’ award too.
The early rounds of the eagerly awaited rematch were highly competitive as Cormier looked to engage his rival on the feet with some success.
However, early in the third round Jones landed a big head kick that rocked DC badly and sent him into reverse gear, before unsteadily reeling to the canvas against the cage moments later.
Jones then followed him to the mat and blasted him with vicious elbows and punches for a brutal knockout finish.
Earlier Volkan Oezdemir had impressed yet again with another swift finish in his main card opening match-up with Jimi Manuwa.
Manuwa had looked to pressure his opponent up against the cage early in the fight, but Oezdemir rocked him with a big left hook to the chin, then chased after the staggered Brit and roughly shoved him to the canvas, followed by ground and pound to deliver a KO stoppage just 42 seconds into the fight.
