Ian McCall Released From UFC Contract

Ian ‘Uncle Creepy’ McCall is no longer a UFC fighter after requesting his release from his contract.

According to the flyweight star, he had been attempting to renegotiate his contract with the promotion as looked to take a significant step up the payscale that would have seen him earn $50,000 to show and a further $50,000 for a win.

However, the UFC weren’t willing to go that far and offered him $22,000 to show, $22,000 for a win, which apparently displeased the former 125lb title contender enough that he subsequently fired his manager, asked for his UFC release and refused to take a random USADA drug test.

“I’m a free agent now,” McCall told mmafighting.com. “If I’m gonna fight, I want to fight for at least $100,000 — 50 and 50 is fine.”

The 33-year-old McCall was once one of the division’s top talents, but injuries and illness has kept him out of action for almost three years now, during which time he’s had to pull out of numerous fights.

‘Uncle Creepy’s’ UFC record only stands at 2-3-1, though he does hold the distinction of having come closest to defeating Demetrious Johnson at flyweight when he took him to a majority draw back in March of 2012, just before ‘Mighty Mouse’ began his long title reign.

Prior to joining the UFC, McCall had been a champion in the Tachi Palace Organization and held an 11-2 record while fighting for various promotions including WEC.

Now he plans to test his worth on the open market and see what promotions would still be interested in having him fight in the present day.

“I just figure I’ll go out, cause some trouble, travel the world, make some money and see if I can create some want. Some need from the fans, like ‘You need to re-sign this guy, you need to pay him the money that he wants’ and then we’ll go from there. Like I said, if nobody wants to pay me, then I’ll go back to my job.”
