We still don’t know exactly when UFC Lightweight champion Conor McGregor’s next fight will be, but it has now been confirmed that it’ll take place in Las Vegas.
UFC President Dana White confirmed that to be the case while speaking to the L.A. Times yesterday during a visit to Freddie Roach’s ‘Wildcard’ gym.
With the UFC having recently unveiled their fight schedule up until the end of March, 2018, that leaves two possible landing spots for McGregor’s next blockbuster bout.
The first option is the end of year UFC 219 event in Las Vegas on December 30th, which White says, “could be” under consideration.
As yet the UFC 219 show doesn’t have a main event booked, but with there now being less than two months until the event and a deal still to be thrashed out with McGregor to ensure he gets back into the Octagon, there becomes less chance that it will end up on there with each passing day.
However, there is another option available and that would be the recently announced UFC 222 event on March 3rd of next year in Las Vegas.
That seems to make a lot more sense as McGregor will surely be looking to have a lengthy fight camp to prepare for what should be his first lightweight title defense, particularly after having spent much of this year working on his boxing skills in preparation for his money-spinning match-up with Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Either way, Dana White has already made it clear that he believes ‘The Notorious’ should be fighting current interim champion Tony Ferguson next, and the Irish superstar seems receptive to that idea, though a trilogy fight against Nate Diaz can’t be completely ruled out at this stage.
