A lightweight fight between Anthony Pettis and Michael Chiesa has been targeted for the UFC 223 event in Brooklyn, New York on April 7th.
The 31-year-old Pettis lost his last fight against Dustin Poirier by TKO back in November, and that continues a disappointing slump in the former that leaves the former lightweight champion with just two victories from his last seven Octagon outings.
That’s a far cry from the 18-2 record that Pettis once wielded while he was still the champion of the division, and given that he’s now ranked just No.13 in the division he’s now in danger of sliding out of the top 15 altogether if he loses his next fight.
As for Chiesa, he too is coming off a loss last time out against Kevin Lee, who submitted him late in the first round back in June of last year.
However, unlike his next opponent, Chiesa was on a three-fight winning streak prior to that and has five wins from his last seven fights, leaving him ranked at No.9 in the lightweight division.
Pettis Vs Chiesa will be joining a UFC 223 card that will feature two title fights, with interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson set to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov in the main event, while Rose Namajunas defends her strawweight title in an immediate rematch with former divisional queen Joanna Jedrzejczyk in the co-main event.
