A fight between two of the welterweight division’s most in-form fighters Kamaru Usman and Santiago Ponzinibbio has been announced as the headliner for UFC Fight Night 129 on May 19th in Santiago, Chile.
the Nigerian born Usman has so far gone seven fights without defeat since joining the UFC in 2015, claiming wins over the likes of Warlley Alves, Sean Strickland, Sergio Moraes and most recently Emil Meek back in January.
That leaves the 30-year-old with a 12-1 career record and he’s currently ranked No.7 in the 170lb division heading into his first UFC headliner.
As for Brazil’s Ponzinibbio, he’s compiled a six-fight unbeaten stretch over the past two-and-a-half years that has included victories over fighters like Court McGee, Nordine Taleb, Gunnar Nelson and Mike Perry, though he’s still only ranked No.10 in the division after all that.
Usman Vs Ponzinibbio tops a UFC Fight Night 129 card that will mark the promotion’s first trip to Chile and will also feature a light-heavyweight showdown between Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua and Volkan Oezdemir.
