At this stage it’s not clear whether a lightweight title showdown between Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov will actually happen, but if it did, Dana White has ruled out any talk that it might take place in Russia.
“If you do a fight that big, you’ve got do it in Vegas,” White told TMZ Sports. “Khabib will fight in Russia at some point, but it wont be that fight. It’s too big. You’ve got to do it in Vegas.”
Meanwhile, White was also asked about whether there was any update on McGregor being punished for leading an attack on a bus filled with fighters prior to UFC 217, but it seems that they are in no rush to do so.
“We’ll see,” White said. “Well he’s gotta be punished by the law first. Let’s see what happens in New York. He’s got to go through that first.”
Of course it should go without saying that if this was pretty much anybody other than McGregor then they would have been booted out of the UFC long before any punishment was handed down in a court of law, but ‘The Notorious’ appears to have become virtually untouchable due to how valuable he is to the company.
