A new rumor suggests that the UFC would like to book a rematch between Eddie Alvarez and Dustin Poirier for UFC On FOX 30, but ‘The Underground King’ has thrown a spanner in the works by stating that he’s not going to fight again until he gets a new contract.
“It’s not f*cking happening,” Alvarez told MMAfighting.com when asked about the possibility of a second fight with Poirier. “I’m not fighting until I get a new deal.”
This aggressive stance appears to have been adopted due to the fact that Alvarez only has one fight left on his current deal with the promotion, and the new contract he was offered fell below what he believes he is worth.
“The only thing we spoke of was re-signing and we haven’t come to that agreement yet. So I’m guessing there’s not going to be an opponent or a bout agreement in the mail unless I’m ready to re-sign. So when we come to agreement to re-sign, then I’m sure there will be a bout agreement in the mail.”
All indications are that Alvarez wants to stay in the UFC and would be willing to fight on the FOX card on July 28th if a deal can be hammered out in time.
“I want to sit down with the UFC and just come to an agreement. I feel like the best guys are (in the UFC). I still have a couple guys in the division that I want to take out and have on my resume so I definitely have some unfinished business here.”
That being said, Alvarez also warned that, “UFC needs to stop playing games. They know what I mean.”
