UFC veteran Rick Story has announced that he’s decided to retire from the sport at the age of 34.
Story had surprisingly left the UFC in 2016 despite having won three of his pas four bouts and having being offered a contract extension by the promotion.
Instead, ‘The Horror’ signed for PFL where he would see out the remainder of his career, winning his first two bouts before losing by TKO in the quarterfinals of their welterweight tournament back in October.
Story bows out with an overall 21-10 record spanning over an 11-year period, with his most notable victories coming against the likes of Johny Hendricks, Thiago Alves, Jake Ellenberger, Gunnar Nelson and Tarec Saffiedine.
“I am writing this to announce my retirement from professional mixed martial arts,” Story wrote on Twitter. “It’s been a career with significant highs and lows, through the good and the bad times, my goals were what drove me and the fans were always my inspiration. For this, I thank all of you. To my friends, family and others who have supported me along this journey, I thank you for always being there and for showing me that there is more to life after fighting.
“It’s time for me to turn my own page. I look forward to what the future holds and I cannot wait.”
