Former featherweight champion Jose Aldo’s next fight will come against fellow Brazilian Renato Moicano at UFC Fight Night 144 in Fortaleza, Brazil on February 2nd.
Moicano had been chosen as the stand-by last weekend at UFC 231 in case anything happened to either Max Holloway and Briant Ortega in the main event of the evening.
Thankfully Moicano’s services were not required – which was just as well since it turned out that he actually failed to make weight. Nonetheless, he was still reportedly paid for having gone to the trouble of having gone into a training camp despite not having a fight at the end of it.
Now he’s also been rewarded with a high-profile fight and he’s certainly earned that opportunity with a 5-1 record in the UFC to date that most recently incuded a first-round submisson victory over Cub Swanson.
As for Aldo, he put back-to-back losses behind him last time out when he TKO’d Jeremy Stephens in the first round this past July.
Aldo currently has three fights left on his current UFC deal and is hoping to make the most of it by pushing for another title shot, and a win over Moicano would certainly help in that regard.
Aldo Vs Moicano joins a UFC Fight Night 144 card that’s expected to be headlined by a rematch between Raphael Assuncao and Marlon Moraes.
