Bellator 216 took place last night and we’ve got all the results for you below.
And eagerly anticipated showdown between bitter rivals Michael ‘Venom’ Page and Paul Daley proved to be a disappointingly uneventful fight.
After a first round in which the two dangerous strikers seemed wary about committing to the stand-up battle, Daley uncharacteristically started looking to use wrestling in the second round and then continued in the same vain in the third, without doing a whole lot when he did get the fight to the mat.
In the fourth round Page was able to transition on top and then made better use of his time in that advantageous position than Daley had, while in the fifth and final round Daley again got the early takedown, but then half-way through Page took his back, worked for a submission and generally was a little more effective to help him edge to a unanimous decision victory (48-47 x3).
Meanwhile, in the co-main event, Mirko ‘Cro Cop’ Filipovic was able to avenge an old TKO loss to Roy Nelson from his days in the UFC.
The 44-year-old just edged out the striking battle in the opening round, while in the second he was able to prevent Nelson’s repeated takedowns while also landing the cleaner strikes, and in the final round ‘Big Country’ did get ‘Cro Cop’ down, but there wasn’t a great deal of action and so it was the Croatian star who emerged with a unanimous decision victory (30-27, 29-28 x2).
