Felice Herrig has suffered a major blow, with an ACL injury forcing her out of her UFC 238 fight with Yan Xiaonan in June and likely to put her on the sidelines for many months after that too.
“Unfortunately on Friday I tore my ACL and I do need surgery, which means I will not be fighting on [UFC 238]” Herrig told her fans on Instagram. “I just want to say I’m sorry to the fans, to the UFC and most definitely my opponent. I hope she gets a replacement, there’s still enough time. As for me, what can you do? All I can do is move forward and stay positive and work on my recovery and come back stronger than ever. In the mean time, I hope everybody send me warm wishes and hugs and virtual kisses and prayers. Just know that I will be back.”
This latest setback comes after the 34-year-old endured a tough 2018 campaign in the Octagon, suffering decision losses to both Karolina Kowalkiewicz and Michelle Waterson.
That was particularly disappointing for Herrig as before that she had been on a roll, winning her previous four fights in a row against the likes of Kaitlin Curran, Alexa Grasso, Justin Kish and Corney Casey.
