A welterweight fight between Gunnar Nelson and Thiago Alves has been booked for UFC Fight Night 160 (aka UFC On ESPN+ 18) in Copenhagen, Denmark on September 28th.
Nelson has lost two of his last three fights, having been KO’d by Santiago Ponzinibbio back in 2017, and then after getting back to winning ways with a submission victory over Alex Oliveira, having then slumped to another defeat against Leon Edwards, although only due to a split decision verdict.
As it stands that means the 30-year-old is nowhere to be found on the official UFC welterweight rankings, though with a solid win or two under his belt that could still change.
Meanwhile, the 35-year-old former title contender Alves is further down the pecking order after losing five of his last seven fights, spanning a four-year period.
Aside from a win over Patrick Cote in 2017 and a split decision win over Max Griffin earlier this year, Alves has been struggling to find form and has picked up losses against the likes of Carlos Condit, Jim Miller, Curtis Millender, Alexey Kunchenko and Laureano Staropoli.
Nelson Vs Alves is currently the only fight signed for the UFC Fight Night 160 event, which will mark the UFC’s first ever visit to Denmark.
