Frankie Edgar has postponed his move down to bantamweight in order to take a short notice fight with ‘The Korean Zombie’ Chan Sung Jung at UFC Fight Night 165 in South Korea next weekend, and he’s now explained why he made the decision.
“I feel like I was ready,” Edgar told MMAfighting.com. “My team liked the fight. Lately, I’m just about experiences and this is a good experience to have in my life. I’ve done a lot in this career. I’ve never taken a fight on two weeks’ notice across the country, so why not add that to the repertoire.”
It also helps that Edgar already has some insight into The Korean Zombie, having previously been preparing to fight him last year before forced to withdraw due to an injury.
“It played a part. I felt like we were very familiar with him. “We were so close to fighting just a year ago so it wasn’t that far off.
“We were supposed to fight and I want to right that wrong.”
Edgar had been scheduled to fight Cory Sandhagen at 135lbs early next year before switching things up to take this bout instead, but he doesn’t have too much sympathy for his previous opponent as he’s not ruled out the possibility of still facing him in the fugure.
“It sucks. That’s the breaks. I’ve definitely been disappointed in this game quite a bit myself. I’m sure I’ll meet him down the road if not in January.”
